From Pong to Fortnite: A Brief History of Video Games?

Video games have come a long way since their inception in the 1950s. The first video game, called "Tennis for Two," was created in 1958 by physicist William Higinbotham. The game was played on an oscilloscope, a device used for measuring electrical signals, and consisted of a simple tennis game where players used knobs to control the movement of a dot on the screen.

In the 1970s, video games became more popular with the introduction of arcade games like Space Invaders and Pac-Man. These games were played in public places like arcades and bars, and were often accompanied by flashing lights and loud music. The popularity of these games led to the creation of home consoles like the Atari 2600, which allowed people to play video games in their own homes.

The 1980s saw the rise of home computers like the Commodore 64 and the Apple II, which allowed people to play more complex games and even create their own games. This decade also saw the introduction of iconic games like Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, which are still popular today.

In the 1990s, video games became more advanced with the introduction of 3D graphics and more complex gameplay. This decade saw the rise of gaming consoles like the PlayStation and the Nintendo 64, which allowed for more immersive gaming experiences. It also saw the introduction of the first-person shooter genre with games like Doom and Quake.

The 2000s saw the rise of online gaming, with games like World of Warcraft and Halo 2 allowing players to connect and play with others from around the world. This decade also saw the introduction of mobile gaming with the release of the first iPhone in 2007.

Today, video games are a multi-billion dollar industry and are played by people of all ages all over the world. From simple games like Candy Crush to complex games like Red Dead Redemption 2, there is a video game for everyone. The history of video games is a fascinating one, and it will be exciting to see what the future holds for this ever-evolving medium.
